This site is a tribute to Roy Frost. He is much loved and will always be remembered by his daughter Katherine, his grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, and William, and his partner Barbara (Babs). He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Alan and Basil, and followed by his sister Eileen. He leaves behind sisters-in-law, Shirley (Alan) and June (Basil); nieces Beverley, Dawn, Debbie, and Denise; and nephews Kevin and Michael and their respective families.
Roy was born in Woodbridge, East Suffolk to Daniel and Margaret in 1935. He moved to Grundisburgh when he was very young with his family. As a young man, he began employment as a mechanic in 1950 for Woodbridge Garages and then GD Smith and Son in Ipswich from 1961-1968. He took a break to serve in the RAF from 1953-1955 for national service.
He came to Canada in the late 1960's for a trip to visit his sister Eileen, then met Irene at a dance in the summer of 1968. They married on April 12, 1969 at Hillside in Ontario, Canada. The birth of their daughter Katherine followed in October of 1969. Together, the family moved to England in 1970, and Roy began working as a mechanic for Henlys in Ipswich. They enjoyed time with family and friends, seaside days, and a trip to Scotland.
The family moved back to Canada in 1975, settling in Washago right on the water on Lake Couchiching. Roy officially became a Canadian citizen in 1980. Over the years, Roy renovated the three season cottage to a four season home, complete with an art studio on the upper floor. The family enjoyed the benefits of the lake, boating the Trent Severn Waterway, swimming, and ice-skating in the winter. The family travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, enjoying several memorable road trips.
They moved to Orillia when Katherine started high school in 1984. Roy had moved into the field of auto sales and worked at both the Honda and Mazda dealerships in Orillia. In 1993, they built a house in Moonstone and lived there until the couple separated in 1999.
Roy continued to pursue his interests in golf, gardening, woodworking, and painting (art) throughout his life, and particularly after retirement. He enjoyed his involvement with the Lions Club for multiple years, serving as president for some of that time. He was part of the organizational committee for the Jazz Festival in Orillia, for a number of years, marking his enjoyment of live music. He took up downhill skiing in his 60's. He never stopped being active, both in his social and personal life.
Roy moved back to England on his own in 2007, settling in the village of Grundisburgh once again. At this time, he united with Babs, and they enjoyed several trips, including Ireland and Germany, as well as countless dances in neighbouring communities. He continued to golf for several years, then took up lawn bowling, enjoying the camaraderie of the team and competitions. He painted landscapes of his community and continued to tend to his flower garden.
Roy enjoyed several visits back to Canada to see his daughter, grandchildren, and sister and also welcomed them to England on three separate visits, the most recent one in August of 2023. He was a man who loved a good film, a good laugh, and a good beer. He valued his friendships and his family and reminiscing about old times. He will certainly be missed.
